Connect Jira to Steady with a webhook, and Steady will match up relevant issue changes and work log updates to your team members based on their email address or name. Then, their Jira activity appears on the Activity page and alongside their check-ins automatically.
Installation
To set it up, first, visit the Account Management - Integrations page in Steady, and copy the URL listed there under the Jira panel.
Next, log in to Jira, visit the Jira project you want to connect, click on the Settings menu on the top right of your screen, and select "System."
Then, scroll down the left menu until you reach "Webhooks" under "Advanced." Then click on the "Create a Webhook" button.
Name the webhook "Steady" and paste in the URL copied over from the Steady configuration panel, and select the "Issue" and "Worklog" events. Then, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Create."
That's it! Steady will now process incoming events from Jira.
Note: webhooks configuration may be in a different spot "Classic" or some older on-prem versions of Jira.
Usage
Here's how the Jira activity will show up with check-ins:
To test it out, make an update in Jira and look for a new entry on the Activity page.
Once a few activities have been logged, you can use the auto-complete functionality in check-ins and comments to auto-link to issues in Jira.
Simply type # and a string of text that is part of your Jira item, and you'll be able to select and auto-insert a fully formatted link to it.
You can add as many Jira projects as you want to your Steady team using the same webhook URL.
Right now, we only support the "created", "updated", and "deleted" actions for issues and worklogs, but if there are others that you'd like to see, let us know!
Disconnecting
To turn off the Jira integration, remove the Steady webhook from within Jira.
Troubleshooting
Look for updates on the Activity page first. The dashboard will sum up updates from the previous period. (The check-ins essentially say "here's what I did yesterday, and here is all of the Jira activity to go along with that.
Check to make sure the email address that is being used in Jira matches the email address that is being used in Steady. If you or a team member is using a different email address in Jira, set the secondary email address in Steady to match the one used in Jira.
If the emails match, check if the visibility of your email address in Jira is limited to your organization. If it is, try setting it to public.
Check to make sure the first and last names in Jira match what is being used in Steady.
Steady won't be able to record data retroactively. Make sure you generate some activity in Jira to test things out after you've set up the connection.
Make sure the "Exclude body" option is left unchecked in the webhook configuration
